About Us Inspired by the commitment to her family and driven by the spirit of entrepreneurship, Dawn Coolahan started her yard sign rental business on her kitchen table, which eventually grew to her garage, basement, spare bedroom – you get the picture. "New York, New York" Make of 'Big Production' of their special day! This unique business was established in 1991 along with the support of her husband Jim, and then, 2 daughters; Candice, age 3 and Danielle age 2. As an Air Force family with transfer papers every few years; the business was moved, re-established, sold and moved again, numerous times. In 1998 the family of now five, with a third daughter, Paige, age 4, returned “home” to a permanent residence in Maryland. With the desire to foster entrepreneurship in women, Dawn began to offer this opportunity to other moms with the same ideals and ambitions. Dawn’s sister, Paige Smith came on as a terrific asset to the business in 2000. Card in the Yard of Maryland has now grown to 7 locations in Maryland, all owned and operated by stay-at-home-moms. Excitement is in the air (or should we say, in the yard), with the expansion of Card in the Yard nationwide, and the first international location - “Card in the Yard of Bermuda”.
